break.

Finally. Break. So relieved.

And more precious time for minis! I've been recently sneaking time to work on the kitchenette, maybe a couple bricks, maybe a coat of Mod-Podge or paint on the counter. I had to repaint the counter three times because I couldn't get the right colour! Aaaaah

But I'm free now, so yesterday I made the above. The mattress is just layers of mod-podged foam board, and the bed post is matte board. So is the side table.

Love the side table so much. It's painted with ANITA'S All Purpose Espresso Bean, and craft smart Golden Brown Acrylic Paint. The handles are just Q-tips.

The mirror is a yard sale find, an ancient hand-held mirror thing. I don't even know, really.

And then, just for fun, a tinge of oddity in your day.

Kitchenette

So I've been dying to kick-start mini-making again, and am on the verge of just making a house for fun, no competition, just going free-style. I haven't been finding any competitions that don't include purchasing a kit and working from there. I don't exactly enjoy kits. Besides that, I really can't afford them. So if anybody knows of any near competitions to be hosted, please let me know.

I was contemplating making this a step by step deal with multiple posts, but I decided to just finish it and then post :)

It's constructed of matte board and Mod Podge.

Then I gave it the finishing touches-

The bricks are egg carton painted burgundy, the faucet is clay spray-painted silver, the tiles are Google Images mod-podged onto matte board, and the cabinet handles are clay spray-painted silver.

The scissors are removable, but the knives aren't.

I hope we get some off-days soon with the impending winter and all. :D

1:144 Living Room

Hello to the mini world out there :)

I've finished with my teeny miniature room! It was actually really fun.

For flooring, I painted a scrap of matte board and used a knife to make floorboard indentions on it.

And then, of course, I mod-podged it.

I forgot to stick the penny in there for scale so you can probably tell because the white chair was in my last post.

The lamp is two beads, wire, hot glue, and spray paint.

The side table thing-y is mat board, paper, hot glue, paint, and lead for the handles.

The chaise lounge is mat board, paint, hot glue, and craft foam for the pillow.

The chair is two toothpick ends, mod-podge, paint, and clay.

All the little details...

I took up a dare to make a room out of a little ancient matchbox, since it was a piece from my deceased grandfather and stuff like that shouldn't just be throw away. So I'm making a 1:144 living room out of it because why not.

I started on the furniture, just one piece. I'm only using four. <At this point, three out of four are completed.>

Uncle Andrew's Attic

Hi there! First week of school means summer projects, so I put together a scene from The Magician's Nephew.

That black thing is the door that Digory and Polly come through.

I'm going stir-crazy!

So, two weeks left of vacation. Not a lot of miniatures were made this summer, and I don't really know why. But the time wasn't wasted, not in the least. I have spent hours typing two books, Saving the Paper Boy and The Lost Tears of a Sadist. At one point, I wiped eight chapters from one of them and started over almost from scratch. It wasn't working out, the way I was going. But it's going amazing now :D

You know, I've been thinking, and being a miniaturist is a whole lot like being a writer. We get that need to shove our heads leagues deep in craft materials, while they just have to type and type until their fingers are sore and their minds are empty, they've written them out. When we look around, we see things to scale down into mini, while they see possible book ideas. We both get that feeling like we're going to combust if we don't sit down just do it. It's a never-ending cycle, really.

So I made this chair inspired by Atomic Blythe on Pinterest.

I painted it to look like wood. Mostly brown, a smidgen of black.

Another chair, this one modelled after that really popular kind of chair that I've noticed most miniaturists have in their inventory.

I made this chaise lounge inspired by Kristine's tutorial. This was the third in line of attempts.

I have felt the need to craft like crazy recently, so I'll post again soon. :D

Property of ____ ...?

A post by Pepper of MitchyMooMiniatures caught my attention. I've really never thought about the issue of copyright, except for I would rather like it if people didn't copy and paste my exact ideas and pictures to their blogs without linking back to me. I wouldn't want someone to think that I was the one trying to copycat. But it's all a matter of your reputation being protected in the end, isn't it? With me having no reputation in the miniature world, I really have nothing to protect. But say I did. Would it still bother me? I have always, in the past, linked back to the person I got an idea from if I got the idea specifically from them and it was a handmade piece. If I got the idea from Pinterest then I probably won't link back. But Pepper's post made me wonder if the people I'm linking to bother that I'm blogging about my recreation of their original ideas. I've never received an angry comment or e-mail or anything to say that what I'm doing is wrong. Yet is it? I don't know.

ANYWAYS, I saw a couch with a chaise on Pinterest and recreated it with foam board and mat board. Working with fabric has not done me well in the past... so...

Since I can't have actual LED lights to use for lamps, I constructed little light bulbs out of clay and spray-painted beads.

I've also been working on my first egg-carton brick piece.

Thanks for reading! :D
