sun shines.

I purchased a new camera two days ago! I'm not quite sure when it will arrive, but I was reluctant to photograph today's scene because I really wanted these to be in higher quality photos. That's okay though, I'll touch up the mess of a room box in the meantime so when you can actually see the details you won't wish that you weren't able to :)

You can see the obvious wrinkles the paper insisted on making.

The picture is one I took a few weeks back of a sunrise I can in no way take claim of finding. It was the most beautiful one I have ever seen. This is only the corner of it, but the colours spread across half the sky and illuminated the cold, softened ground. I had to take a picture :)

I probably will make a tutorial on the chaise for those people who can't sew and still want to make this. Unless the way it's normally made isn't using sewing...? I'll be shocked if I find out I'm not the first to use this technique :/

time flies.

I can't believe it's still Sunday as I type. I barely made it. After a week of practically no time for minis, still the scene is propped up on the craft desk. It's production week, so all spare time was eaten up by rehearsals and showings and all that jazz. That was draining. Fun, yes, but draining.

Not my best scene, I know. Too hastily made.

I'm so excited to see that more and more people are joining the CC2015!! Can't wait to see what they're building. I still haven't done anything but a terrible mock-up that didn't exactly work out the way I was thinking. But at least I'll have the whole summer off...

The contestants for the Shapeways Miniature Contest did amazing on their builds. I'm so impressed, these people are so talented!

antique finishing on modern miniatures.

Happy Easter!!!!

Most beautiful day of the year. It's the day when many people who don't go to church finally visit, and it's the day when people are cheery whether they know joy or don't. It's the day a whole lot of people hear truth, and this just amazing. :D

Besides it being Easter, I'm also exuberant because we visited Hobby Lobby yesterday, and you know what I found? Antique Mod-Podge! Better than the glossy stuff, and that is saying something. It just has this shade of realism that's so perfect. And I also re-stocked my matte board supply, finally :)

That little design there is the twenty one pilots emblem, and they will be releasing a new album in less than two months! Ahh so excited!

Those flowers ended up a successful flower experiment, unlike that one attempt.

late.

Late for posting, I know. It's been a long week, so all of the minis in this scene except for the ukulele were made today, because I've been away from home since my last post. Made it, though :)

That chair got three different coats of paint; the last wasn't even dry yet when I photographed. "Make up your mind!" I growled to myself.

So glad to be making miniatures again. I know, I know, four days without, but every single time I thought oh my gosh what a good miniature that could make I had to squelch the thought and try NOT to think about miniatures... which obviously did not work. So. Glad to be back.

emerald.

More shabby and less chic, I think :)

If you don't have a frame for a picture that fits, try setting your picture on craft foam, tracing it with a needle, and using a craft knife to slice the foam on the lines. Glue the picture matting to the foam, cut the foam to the desired width of your frame, and you're done. I've used this method for all my frames (maybe I should start using a different method because all my frames are identical).

springtime.

Springtime means pollen and everyone being so excited about the warmth that they sit and bask in the pollen. Then they show up sneezing, saying they are having allergies.

"Yes, yes, I'm sure you are," I reply.

I'm sorry about the bad lighting, I didn't finish everything (anything) I planned to do over the week and ended up doing it the afternoon I planned to photograph.

That plant was fun. Ten minutes before the sunlight left, no plant was in the pot. Last resort- Take a piece of plain paper and cut it into strips, coat two fingers with green paint and slide the strips in between your fingers. For the dirt, cut a scrap of matte board/paper/foam board/whatever is on hand to fit the inside of your plant holder. Coat it with glue, throw a pinch of dirt on it, stick your plant in, and you're done.

This is Basil, my unintentionally fat cat.

mustard yellow

Sunshine today!!!!

I knew while making these scenes based off of a mustard yellow colour that they needed some good sunny light filtering around them. It's been dreary all week, but I woke up to sunlight pouring into my room! Yayyy praise the Lord!

I'm not very happy with the way the table turned out, so I'm going to do more work on it.

By the way, the Creatin' Contest kit arrived yesterday! I pieced it together with the help of a whole lot of masking tape... only to realized my scale is waaaaaay too small for that kit. Wiping the front of the kit and starting over. I can't wait to see what the rest of you are doing with it!
