colors on concrete

Many hours that should've been spent sleeping/eating/cleaning/writing were spent at my work bench play area, working smearing glue everywhere. I'm getting into the whole incorporating handmade art into my scenes... instead of printing off some random picture I didn't take, slapping it onto cardstock, and calling it quits. Toooooo boring. And I also wanting to start using concrete and distressed walls. So I pulled out the grey paint and started gathering ideas on how to paint synthetic concrete. On my computer. Standing on concrete floors in the basement (I keep the computer in the basement). It took me a while to realize that I don't exactly need to make concrete floors.

The backdrop is an old stool turned on its side.

Inspired by Pepper's lovely badger that she made using Alpaca fibre, I decided to try it out. The only Alpaca fibre I had was blue :/ so I used cotton.

This 'lil kit's name is Ellie.

playing ukuleles in the snow.

Today I woke up to snow piled everywhere. First snow day yet :)

The ukulele body is matte board, the knobs and all that is hot glue, the strings are thread, and the paint is Golden Brown by craft smart. And I layered Mod-Podge on it, too.

The cork is a leftover scrap from the DWR champagne contest. Congratulations to the winners, btw! You can see all the entries here.

Cicero... and a couch

A two-day couch project :) Looks like I failed at the Finish it Friday thing since it's now Sunday.

But this is what I've been working on.

And here we have Cicero.

Construction finished... welcome in!

After many hours of coating paint and Mod-Podge onto cardboard, I'm all done.

Everything in this box is handmade.

I know that there's a ton of mistakes in this room box, but practice makes perfect and this is my first (official) room box (besides that 1:144 living room) so no pressure for me or anything. It's a step up from my UU2014 entry anyway :)

By the way, Happy New Year everyone.

Christmas Ornament Challenge

Earlier today, a post showed up at Modern Mini Houses with a challenge to make a mini scene with a Christmas ornament, something I'd never thought of before. Since we have a surplus of really odd ornaments that don't exactly match, I was sure I'd find something. Immediately when I opened the box-

I tried to make it the base of a coffee table, but that didn't work. Maybe it could, but I was out of patience with the coffee table idea and none of my materials seemed to work with it.

So I did a hanging fixture.

The table is a rock picked up from a nearby lake with jewellery wire for legs. The coffee cup is clay, and the coaster is cork from a champagne bottle. The plant is a bunch of dried pine tree needles poked into silica gel beads. The plant holder is some sort of rubber cap that you put on a chair or table leg so it doesn't mar the flooring. I don't know for sure, though.

Speaking of champagne bottles, I'm entered into the DWR Champagne Chair Contest. I'll post about it once the results are in.
