So here is how I make my candles. My candles have only been featured in one post, Uncle Ketterly's Attic.
You'll need a scrap of paper, clay/stick/ whatever you want to use, Q-tip, string, paint, two buttons, and Mod-Podge.
Begin by adjusting the Q-tip to about this length.
Take your paper and cut it in a long strip, wide at the top and skinny at the bottom.
Twirl it around the centre of the Q-tip, gluing it down as you go.
It should look a bit like this:
Then take your two buttons and glue them to either end of the Q-tip.
I sealed it with Mod-Podge. This step is optional!
While it's drying, you can start on the candle. You can use any cylindrical shape you want, like a wooden dowel, or you can do what I did and form the candle in clay.
Then I painted it.
For the wick, it is possible to just use black string, but string frays easily if not sealed. So I always paint the string black, even if it already is black.
While waiting for it to dry, the first piece should be done drying. That gets a coat of paint.
When the candle is done drying, I like to give it a coat of Mod-Podge to mimic wax. Then cut the string to the right length, dab a bit of Mod-Podge where you want the wick, and set it in there to dry.
Let it dry, then glue the candle onto the stand.
Done!
There is another way to make the stand that I use. You'll need a button, a candle (you already know how to make that), a clear plastic straw, and Mod-Podge.
Make your candle. I prefer to make it a shorter one when I use this method.
Glue it onto the button.
Snip the clear plastic straw to a length a little taller than the wick. Then, using Mod-Podge (or some other glue if it will work; I've found that hot glue is too messy for this), glue the clear plastic straw to the button.
Done! :D
So sad that break is over. Thankfully, I've taken the time to make one bed, a bedside table, a desk, the beginnings of a house, some Christmas items, six dining room chairs, a dining room table, the beginnings of a typewriter, that blue modern chair, the tea supplies with all the polaroids, and a complete bust of Cicero. And don't forget that weird head thing... actually it might be better if we just forget about it.

Finally. Break. So relieved.
And more precious time for minis! I've been recently sneaking time to work on the kitchenette, maybe a couple bricks, maybe a coat of Mod-Podge or paint on the counter. I had to repaint the counter three times because I couldn't get the right colour! Aaaaah
But I'm free now, so yesterday I made the above. The mattress is just layers of mod-podged foam board, and the bed post is matte board. So is the side table.
Love the side table so much. It's painted with ANITA'S All Purpose Espresso Bean, and craft smart Golden Brown Acrylic Paint. The handles are just Q-tips.
The mirror is a yard sale find, an ancient hand-held mirror thing. I don't even know, really.
And then, just for fun, a tinge of oddity in your day.

So I've been dying to kick-start mini-making again, and am on the verge of just making a house for fun, no competition, just going free-style. I haven't been finding any competitions that don't include purchasing a kit and working from there. I don't exactly enjoy kits. Besides that, I really can't afford them. So if anybody knows of any near competitions to be hosted, please let me know.
I was contemplating making this a step by step deal with multiple posts, but I decided to just finish it and then post :)
It's constructed of matte board and Mod Podge.
Then I gave it the finishing touches-
The bricks are egg carton painted burgundy, the faucet is clay spray-painted silver, the tiles are Google Images mod-podged onto matte board, and the cabinet handles are clay spray-painted silver.
The scissors are removable, but the knives aren't.
I hope we get some off-days soon with the impending winter and all. :D
